A Wedding at Newburgh Priory, Yorkshire

Calem & Gabi

A Wedding at Newburgh Priory, Coxwold, Yorkshire

Set deep in the Yorkshire badlands Newburgh Priory is an 800 year old home. This wedding is about a perfect September day when friends who are family and family who are friends all gathered here and made a bit of magic…

How Gabi met Calem

We met at a mutual friends bar, the first night we met Calem actually asked me to marry him, I laughed him off but who would of know 7 years to the day I would of actually been marrying him.

The Proposal

It was New Year’s Eve and Calem had secretly scattered candles and lanterns lit all over the back garden.  He asked me to let buster (our dog) out and as I walked out it was perfect like something out of a movie, he walked me down to the stream where he had champagne waiting. He got down on one knee and proposed with a piece of string, straight out of one of my fave film moments in The Count of Monte Cristo, he wanted me to choose my own ring so was perfect! I was over the moon, I cried.

The Venue

I found Newburgh Priory randomly on Google, I was looking for ruins, as I always knew I wanted something really romantic and candle lit. After going to see it I fell in love and booked it. It was the only venue I went to see. I’m so happy I choose it.

The Theme

I knew from the start I wanted our wedding to be white and flooded with natural light. Once the evening fell I wanted candlelight to dominate and cast a warm and romantic feel on the space. Once I had established that as a starting point to work with, It was a case of ensuring everything from the fabrics to the centrepieces fit this white and floaty feel and be able to really sing once it was candle lit. We wanted oodles of atmosphere and I feel like that’s what we managed to achieve.

How it Went Down

The week before the wedding we had so many bumps in the road from the priests, to the marquee you name it we had it. But on the day I had so many amazing people around me that all of that melted away and everything felt perfect.  Everyone always says it’s the happiest day of your life and although I was quite sure I would be a stress case, honestly it was the most perfect day and I wish I could re-live it all again!

Word of the Wise

Enjoy every second and surround your self with people you trust. Every supplier I booked got my vision, I hate having my photo taken but Sandra made me feel amazing and not awkward at all, that’s what every bride needs!

Sandra-Thanks for the words Gabi and remember, it was a nice mix of me and the bubbles that took the AWKWARD out of the picture taking;)

We’d love to hear your words! Leave us a note!
