A thank you Wedding Lovely for this little feature on us!
Here are the words from the feature…
Today’s photographer interview is with Sandra of Divine Day Photography based in London, England! Enjoy:
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY.
We are a group of three with fashion backgrounds. We all love our reportage, but do it with an editorial slant, and love to attempt to create a fine art look. I am Sandra von Riekhoff, the founder who started it back in 2007. We have managed to snap up a few awards along the way and have shot all over the world.
We have had the great privilege of being recently invited as one of Blenheim Palace’s select trusted photography firm which has had us dancing around a bit. To be honest, we are all saps who love a wedding, and do it because it’s possibly the nicest job in the world — along with perhaps being a champagne taste tester!
HOW DID YOU GET INTO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?
I shot fashion but started doing weddings after my own. I was not a huge fan of our photos and didn’t get many portraits of us, which was a little disappointing. So now I’m on a crusade to give couples not only a beautifully covered day, but timeless portraits that do them justice!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE WEDDING DAY TO CAPTURE?
Portraits of the bride and groom, and all those gorgeous spontaneous moments! I’m good at doing the swoop and snap! I’m now quite obsessed with details too! I’ve been so amazed recently at the genius of these bride’s that I’ve been lucky enough to shoot!
WHAT IS THE MOST AWKWARD MOMENT YOU’VE EXPERIENCED WHILE ON THE JOB?
I once got trapped in sea mud trying to get a gorgeous shot of a couple… and lost my shoes. Spent half the day with muddy legs, but to be honest, I wore it proudly. It was worth the shot!
WHAT’S THE BEST THING YOU EVER ATE AT A WEDDING?
Grilled Octopus in Tuscany.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VENUE AND WHY?
Well, of course I am always struck in the heart by the jaw dropping opulence of Blenheim Palace, but The Larmer Tree in Dorset Wiltshire, it’s simply put… magical! It’s an 18th century pleasure garden in the middle of nowhere! It’s littered with enchanted follies and a secret garden with a storybook pond. It’s splendid Georgian tin sided, tin roofed house has thick planked dark oak wooden floors and gigantic Georgian windows that flood the place with light and atmosphere! It’s really got a special place in my heart!
NIKON OR CANON?
Nikon D4. It’s so great in low light and so amazing, I sometimes wonder if I even need to be there?
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM LOCATION TO SHOOT A WEDDING?
I’m waiting for an Icelandic wedding!
IF YOU COULD SHOOT ANY CELEBRITY WEDDING (PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE), WHO WOULD BE THE LUCKY COUPLE?
Ha, funny question! One of our shooters recently shot for Jodi Kidd, but the sad fact is that typically they aren’t massive fans of being photographed, so you don’t get that time that we all love to get the epic portraits! I just like a bride who likes the camera! Celebrity or not!
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED, AND WOULD PASS ALONG TO OTHER NEW WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS JUST GETTING STARTED?
Shoot not to create pics that you think fit expectations, shoot to challenge yourself!
